What is Gbanwe and how is it pronounced?

Gbanwe (pronounced 'ban-way') is an African skill exchange platform. The name comes from the Igbo word meaning 'to exchange.' You earn Gbanwe Credits by delivering services to others, then spend those credits to receive services you need — no cash required.

How do Gbanwe Credits work?

Gbanwe Credits (GBC) are the platform's internal currency. Every new user gets 10 free starter credits. You earn more by completing swaps for others. You spend them to request services from other users. Credits can also be purchased with cash via Paystack, or cashed out (with a small commission) once you're verified.

Do I need money to start?

No. You get 10 free credits when you sign up. That's enough to request your first service. You can earn more credits by offering your own skills — completely free of charge.

How do I earn credits?

List a skill you offer on your profile. When someone requests your service and you deliver it, they confirm completion and the credits held in escrow are released to your wallet instantly.

Can I convert credits to cash?

Yes. Once you complete BVN/NIN verification (KYC), you can cash out your credits via bank transfer. Gbanwe takes a 15% commission on cash-outs. For example, 100 credits = ₦850 to your account.

What happens if someone doesn't deliver?

Credits are held in escrow until both parties confirm the job is complete. If there's a dispute, our team reviews the evidence from both sides and makes a final decision. Repeat offenders receive warnings and can be banned.

How does the escrow system work?

When you request a swap, the credits are locked in escrow — neither party can access them until the job is confirmed done. Once the recipient confirms delivery, credits are released to the provider. This protects both sides from fraud and ghosting.

Is Gbanwe available in my city?

Gbanwe is launching first in Nigeria, open to all cities. Pan-African expansion (Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and more) is planned for later in 2026. Remote skills like design, coding, tutoring, and writing work everywhere from day one.

How do I report a bad actor?

Every profile has a 'Report' button. You can also email us at hello@gbanwe.app. Verified reports are reviewed within 48 hours. Serious violations result in immediate suspension.

Is my personal data safe?

Yes. Gbanwe complies with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR). We store minimal data, encrypt all sensitive fields, and never sell your data to third parties. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

When will iOS be available?

Gbanwe launches on Android first. iOS is planned for later in 2026 after the Android MVP is stable. Join the waitlist to be notified when iOS drops.

How is Gbanwe different from Fiverr or Upwork?

Fiverr and Upwork require PayPal, USD accounts, and foreign compliance — actively excluding most Africans. Gbanwe requires none of that. You don't need cash to start, there's no foreign account needed, and the platform is built specifically for the African reality: mobile-first, Naira-based, and trust-focused.
